Abstract:
Background and Purpose
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 8 weeks of high intensity interval training with green tea supplementation on some cardiovascular parameters, aerobic and anaerobic function, body composition and quality of life in overweight girls.
Material and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 48 overweight girls were purposefully selected and randomly divided into four groups (n=12): control, training, green tea, and training with green tea. In the training group, the HIIT protocol with an intensity of 75-90% of the maximum heart rate and in the supplement group, two 500 mg tablets of green tea daily and in the combination group, both interventions were performed for eight weeks. Measurements included estimation of VO2max by Bruce test, mean production capacity (MPP) and peak production capacity (PPO) by Wingate test, resting blood pressure, resting heart rate, body composition and quality of life through WHOQOL questionnaire before and after the intervention. To analyze the data, independent covariance and Tukey's post hoc tests with a significance level of p‌ 0.05 was used.
Results:
After 8 weeks of training and consumption of green tea, resting heart rate (P = 0.001), weight (P = 0.001), body mass index (P = 0.001) and fat percentage (P = 0.02) Decreased and VO2max (P = 0.001), MPP (P = 0.001), PPO (P = 0.02) and quality of life (P = 0.001) showed a significant increase; These differences were significantly more pronounced in the training with supplement groups than the other three groups (P = 0.001).
Conclusion:
According to the research findings, 8 weeks of high intensity interval training with green tea may lead to a decrease in body mass index, fat percentage and increase in aerobic and anaerobic function, and consequently increase the quality of life in overweight girls.
