Abstract |
and the impact of difficult and stressful conditions in sports environment on the lack of commitment to exercise has been shown in many studies. The results of some studies also indicate the effectiveness of interventions with a mindfulness approach on reducing the pressure caused by such stresses. As a result, the present researchers sought to answer the question of whether mindfulness training could affect commitment to the training and executive functions of adolescent gymnasts. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mindfulness exercises on executive functions and commitment to practice among adolescent male gymnasts in Sabzevar. Method: The present study is a semi-experimental study in which 100 gymnasts with an age range of 10 to 13 years participated in the study voluntarily. Participants were then divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group performed mindfulness intervention exercises in 8 sessions. Finally, the experimental and control groups were evaluated on the two variables of executive functions and commitment to training through Stroop test, tower of London test and Scanlan sports commitment model questionnaire. Univariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. Results: The findings showed that mindfulness training leads to improved executive performance and commitment to training in gymnasts. Conclusion: In explaining the findings of the present study, it can be said that mindfulness interventions lead to less perception of distressing events and maintain greater focus in athletes. Therefore, the effect that mindfulness has on increasing focus due to being present and reducing tensions leads to increased executive functions. On the other hand, mindfulness with its effects on people to enjoy sports leads to their commitment to exercise and participation in sports. |
