The Relationship between Personality Traits with the Performance of Swimmers in Hormozgan Province

Abstract:
Leadership style is prominent in day to day life, regardless of the situation an individual finds him or herself in. Leadership and the need for a leader is as old as the emergence of many civilizations. A successful leader must evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each team member in order to ensure the most workplace success. Research has shown that an individual's personality type is related to his or her personality style and contributes to how well someone responds to the leadership style. This study investigated the relationship between personality traits with the performance of swimmers in Hormozgan province. The most important factor in a coach's success is helping athletes improve their athletic skills. This success can only be achieved through the right leadership style and the right personality traits for a coach. Based on the importance of the subject, the researcher examined research in this area. For this purpose, from the community of swimmers of Hormozgan province, which is 2180 people and using Morgan formula, 327 people were selected for this research by systematic random sampling method and finally, a questionnaire was distributed among them. In this study, two questionnaires of Shortened Personality Trait Questionnaire designed by Costa and McCray (1985) and the Strategic Performance Questionnaire designed by Thomas et al. (1999) were used. After collecting the response information, the questionnaires were used by SPSS software version 26. the relationship between coach personality traits and athletes' performance was examined. The results show that there is no significant relationship between neurotic personality traits (0.006) and extraversion (0.007) and swimmers' performance, but among other personality traits that include conscientiousness (0.52), There is a significant relationship between openness (0.84) and agreement (0.69) with the performance of swimmers.
