Identifying the dimensions of the development of mountaineering sport in promoting the physical and combat fitness of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Abstract
The Supreme Leader has always recommended the Armed Forces to sports, especially mountaineering. Mountaineering is one of the practical and priority sports of the military, which can affect the protection and promotion of physical fitness of the Armed Forces personnel. This sport is important because the mountain has always been one of the ground battlefields in the armies, and therefore the ability to mountaineering and combat in the mountains for the ground forces is one of the tactical and operational priorities. The purpose of this study is to identify the dimensions of the development of mountaineering sport in promoting the physical and combat fitness of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The present study, considering that it is a function of external as well as abstract factors, and on the other hand, the problem is intertwined with the researcher, follows the interpretive paradigm and inductive reasoning, and consequently the qualitative approach. In this research, phenomenological strategy has been used. Data collection tools had semi-structured interviews that the structured questions based on background literature and theoretical foundations. The study participants were purposefully selected from individuals aware of the developing of mountaineering in the Armed Forces, which was theoretical saturated after the 19th interview and continued until the 23rd interview for more assurance. Coding and hidden content analysis method were used to analyze the data. Findings indicate that 18 sub-categories and 7 main categories were extracted around the central phenomenon of the research. The main categories include planning, training, holding events, motivation, performance appraisal, culture building and infrastructure. Utilizing extractive categories, the development of mountaineering in the Armed Forces in order to fulfill the orders of the Supreme Leader, improve physical fitness, will bring increase combat capability and create a spirit of militancy and combat in the staff of the Armed Forces.
