Abstract:
Background and Aims: Karate is one of the medal-winning sports in international and Olympic competitions and its success requires improving the performance of athletes in basic ages. Keeping one’s balance is a basic part of daily activities and it is an important factor in the performance of the athletic. The importance of balance in daily physical activity and sports activities to gain points in sports skills such as karate to prevent injury is obvious. The goal of this study was to study the effect of8 weeks of resistance training on increasing the quality of dynamic balance in karate adolescents 13 to 17 years old.
Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design, 40 male karate athletes of Amol city with an age range of 13-17 years participated voluntarily. Subjects were selected by purposive sampling and randomly divided into two equal experimental and control groups. The dynamic balance of the subjects was measured before and after the test using a Biodex balance meter. The experimental group participated in a designed 8-week program (3-5 sessions per week) of resistance training. Covariance analysis and t-test in SPSS software version 24 were used for statistical analysis along with descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation, etc.).
Findings: The results showed that 8 weeks of resistance training had a significant effect on increasing the quality of dynamic balance in adolescent karate compared to the control group. The results of t-test showed that the experimental group had a significant difference in dynamic balance score after performing resistance exercises compared to before, so that it significantly increased the quality of dynamic balance (P / 0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the study confirmed the significant effect of these exercises on the dynamic balance of the groups. According to the research findings, the use of resistance training can be recommended to improve the dynamic balance of athletes, especially karate.
