Abstract:
Talent identification(TID) and selection(TS) programs are aimed to detecting talented athletes that are predictive of future career success. it has become an integral part of athlete development systems. Talent is assumed to be multidimensional and coaches report several criteria that considered essential for TID. Various techniques and methods have been used in TID, including measuring abilities, laboratory and field tests, etc, by the way new approach with significant feasibility and practicality to applicate in schools is needed. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in subjective assessments with evidence-based TID procedures, in order to increase the probability of selecting successful athelets. Lots of studies have aimed to estimate the empirical relationships between these predictors and performance in different sports. Through this approach, the coach considerded as a reference for TID and TS. In the litereutre, the term “coach’s eye” used as a metaphor for coach decision-making in selecting talents and to describe the process of a coach subjectively evaluating athletic performance. In present study, we aimed to review studies in this area and try to implement in Iranian schools. In accordance with literature, four main attributes were derived: coach’s eye appears to be 1)intuitive, 2)experience-based, 3)subjective, and 4)holistic. it reflects the coach’s internal process of evaluating, resulting in a decision to select or deselect the athlete. This process is based on the coach’s intuition and subjective experience and has the potential to provide a more holistic profile of the athlete. In Iran, to define the role of the coach in TS and to avoid reducing reliability, objectivity, subjective biases, we develop TS forms for coach(Physical Education teachers-PET) in handball, volleyball and basketball. The forms contain a checklist of items that the coach must consider while observing athlete during playing and assign a score from 1 to 10 based on criteria. Content-validity-ratio(CVR) and content-validity-index(CVI) were examined, employing panel of experts. And the final items that acquired sufficient CVR and CVI were listed and other items were removed. The forms will be announce and use in school sports competition programs. PETs in school competitions will be required to assessing talents based on these forms.
