Identifying the factors of adherence to exercise during the Corona virus pandemic: A qualitative study

Abstract
background:
In March 2020, the World Health Organization announced a new incidence of the virus worldwide and many countries were quarantined. The devastating physical and psychological consequences following the Corona pandemic and the quarantine of cities led to the tendency to physical exercise as one of the most effective measures to reduce the physical and psychological problems caused by the corona.
Method:
The method of this research is qualitative research and the information was collected based on interviews. The subjects of the study were 21number of men and women who had practiced online through social networks since the beginning of the pandemic and corona quarantine. The condition for entering the study was that the subjects practiced online for at least twelve weeks with an instructor or using clips.
results:
The data obtained from the interviews using the method of theme analysis and the themes of individuals about adherence to exercise were extracted during the corona. The results of the interviews led to the identification of six main themes, four sub-themes and seventy themes which the main themes were training achievements, individual factors, corona pandemic conditions, social interactions, individual goals and training conditions. Examples of sub-themes were more communication with family and friends, physical and psychological achievement from online exercises, and features of the training program and coach.
Discussion:
Many people in the Corona pandemic gradually overcame their dependence to club and bodybuilding equipment and began exercising at home by increasing their positive self-awareness. Online exercise at home was the first way to overcome psychological problems and fitness concerns during quarantine, but many achievements and factors led people to adhere to online exercise. Due to the high availability and benefits of this training method, it can be used as an effective training method to prevent people drop out sport programs and not adhering to exercise.
