Abstract:
Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) is one of the growing and costly problems in the world. Hyper Lordosis is one of the MSD that related with lack of paravertebral and abdominal strength and obesity. Yoga is one of the methods that improves hyper lordosis by focusing on strengthening the abdominal muscles and reducing the pelvis anteversion. Due to the fact that Cyclic Yoga is a new method that includes specific treatment cycles and few studies have been conducted in this method. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of 10 weeks of selected Cyclic Yoga exercises on hyper lordosis abnormality and some anthropometric indices of middle-aged women.
Method: 42 middle-aged women were purposefully selected and randomly assigned to a yoga exercise group (n=21, 53/76±4/073 years) or a control group (n=21, 53/57±4/781 years). All the participants have hyper lordosis and overweigh (lordosis angle> 45 degree, BMI> 25, body fat >30%). The yoga exercise group done 50-90 minutes Cyclic Yoga three times a week. A flexible ruler and Tanita body composition analyzer were used to measure lordosis angle and some anthropometric indices. Descriptive statistics were used to calculate the mean and standard deviations of data. One-way ANOVA was used to calculate and compare between groups and dependent t-test was used to compare within groups. (p ≤0.05). Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS version 24 software.
Results: Lordosis angle, BMI, body fat and WHtR variables decreased in the yoga exercise group significantly (p ≤0.05). There was a significant increase in lordosis angle, BMI, body fat and WHtR variables in the control group (p ≤0.05).
Conclusion: Cyclic Yoga exercise is inexpensive non-pharmacological method. This exercise can be recommended as a method for improvement hyper lordosis abnormality and some anthropometric indices in middle-aged women.
