Abstract:
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic growing metabolic disorder, pathophysiologically characterized by relative insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. International Diabetes Federation estimates that 425 million people are diagnosed with T2DM in the worldwide. Change of lifestyle, urbanization and sleep disorders are attributed as the significant reasons of this increasing pandemic. Obviously, there are financial and social outcomes for people with diabetic. As a result, the International Diabetes Federation supports cost-effective and accessible treatments for the general public. Yoga is one of the non-medical and inexpensive methods that improve sleep quality and the outcomes related with diabetes. Cyclic yoga is one of the new style of hatha yoga in the world that considers therapeutic cycles and few studies have been done in this style. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cyclic yoga exercise on some glycemic index and sleep quality of Type 2 Diabetic Middle-Aged Women.
Methods: 42 Middle-Aged women with type 2 diabetes randomly assigned to a cyclic yoga exercise group (n=21, 54.71±5.081 years) or a control group (n=21, 53.38±5.324 years). PSQI questionnaire was used to collect information at baseline and after 12 weeks of cyclic yoga. Biosystem kits (made in Italy) used to measure FBS. Also, Biorexfars kits used to measure the amount of HBA1C. Insulin measured by Siemens kits. Data Analysis Was Performed Using Descriptive Statistics. One-Way ANOVA was used for group comparison and dependent t-test was used for in-group measurement. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS version 24 software. Cronbach's Alpha was 0.77 for this questionnaire.
Results: HBA1C and FBS variables decreased in the cyclic yoga group significantly (p ≤0.05). There was a significant increase in insulin variable in cyclic yoga group (p ≤0.05). Then, HBA1C and FBS variables increased in the cyclic yoga group significantly (p ≤0.05).but, insulin there was no significant change in insulin in the control group (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Cyclic Yoga exercise is specific therapeutic method. The results of this research show cyclic yoga improves some glycemic index and sleep quality in T2DM middle-aged women.
