Abstract
Background: One of the challenges of understanding athletes' skill behavior is identifying the components and dimensions that are effective in achieving and maintaining athletic success. Many factors play a role in the growth and success of athletes. Competitive anxiety and the sport Friendship quality are among these factors
Objective: Various studies have shown that high anxiety often causes people to perform below their usual standard in any field of performance. Sports friend has a great impact on people's perception of physical ability, sports enjoyment and sports motivation through feedback, encouragement, reinforcement, modeling and setting opportunities. The aim of this study was to investigate the prediction of sports success by the quality of sports friend and competitive anxiety of individual athletes.
Methodology: For this purpose, 100 adolescent female athletes in the fields of 15-15 karate, taekwondo, table tennis and badminton participated in this study voluntarily. Subjects completed the Weiss and Smith (1999) Quality-Friendship-Sports Questionnaire, the Illinois Competitive Anxiety Questionnaire (CSAI-2), and the Standard Sports Success Questionnaire. Stepwise linear regression model using SPSS-16 software was used to estimate the prediction.
Results: Competitive state anxiety variable alone expressed 40% of the variability of the sport success rate variable. After both the variables of sports-friendly quality and competitive anxiety were included in the regression equation, these variables expressed 45% of the variability of the variable of sport success rate. The results of the coefficient table show that the two subscales of competitive state anxiety and sports-friendly quality significantly predict the rate of sport success, so that by increasing a standard deviation from the anxiety variable to competitive state, the sport success score is 0.63 The standard deviation will decrease and by increasing a standard deviation from the sports-friendly quality variable, the sport success score will increase by 0.24 standard deviation.
Conclusion: High sports-friendly quality increases mental health indicators such as life satisfaction, happiness and self-esteem and these factors reduce competitive anxiety as well as increase motivation to try harder and achieve more success and improve performance.
