Abstract
Physical activity as a vital element in today's societies, has a very important role in health and increasing the quality of life of people, especially students (Razavi, Alavi, Loghmani and Zabihi, 2016). One of the important issues in this field is motivation that affects the level of sports participation of individuals and sports psychologists refer to it as motivation for sports participation (Dehghani and Azizian Kohan, 2020). The use of various tools to encourage people to play sports has a special place, one of which is the media and social networks (Davoodzadeh, Borjali Lou and Safania, 2015). Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sports motivation and social networks in students of Bu- Ali Sina University of Hamadan, which was done by descriptive-correlation method. The statistical population of the study included 10855 undergraduate students of Bu- Ali Sina University of Hamadan. The sample size was calculated based on Morgan table of 373 people. Measurement tools included a questionnaire of motivation to participate in sports activities by David Markland (2004) and a questionnaire of social networks of Khodayari et al. (2014).The validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by 15 sports management experts and the reliability of the sports motivation and social media questionnaires was calculated using Cronbach's alpha method of 0.84 and 0.87, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Spearman correlation coefficient) and also with SPSS software at a significant level of 0.05. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between participation motivation in sports activities and social networks (r = 0.271). Therefore, social networks can be recognized as one of the most important tools in creating sports motivation and in the university environment, with the formation of sports communication networks in cyberspace, the influence of sports activities in this way in the student community is more widespread.
