Abstract:
Background: Technology development, mechanization, lifestyle changes, and weaker family relationships in general, have led to less physical activity and Internet misuse to some extent. The best effective approach is the prevention of Internet addiction in the first place and then emphasis on sport and physical activity.
Purpose :The purpose of the present study is to predict Internet Inclination among female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz based on their physical activity and feeling of loneliness.
Methodology :This study is a field and descriptive-correlational research. The samples of this research were 150 female students from Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz in the second semester of the 99-98 academic year (February - June 2020) with an average age of 22 who were selected from the available population by simple random sampling. Data collection was done through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire “IPAQ” (Its short form with seven questions), UCLA Loneliness Scale Questionnaire (30 questions), and Young Internet addiction test (20 questions). Data was analyzed using SPSS 22 software and Pearson correlation coefficient as well as stepwise regression analysis test.
Results :The findings revealed that physical activity has a negative correlation while the feeling of loneliness has a positive correlation with Internet inclination. In fact, more physical activity and less feeling of loneliness will lead to less Internet Inclination. Moreover, the feeling of loneliness and physical activity predict Internet Inclination 51% and 42% respectively.
Conclusion :Corona Pandemic, remote and virtual education, reduced parental supervision, learning environment pressures, uncertain future, feeling of loneliness, and lack of appropriate physical activities, might increase the risk of Internet inclination among students. According to the findings, paying attention to physical activity and filling leisure time with various sports programs is of so much importance in reducing the feeling of loneliness and needs comprehensive planning and new insights from sports authorities in the country (Iran).
