Abstract
Background and Aim: One of the most important causes of cardiovascular disease is vascular disorders that can endanger the health of obese people. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of intense intermittent exercise (HIIT) on serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor in obese middle-aged women.
Materials and Methods: The statistical population of this study consisted of obese women (BMI above 30) from which 20 people were selected as a statistical sample and randomly divided into two groups of exercise HIIT (n = 10) and control (n = 10). Were. The training protocol was performed for 8 weeks and 3 sessions per week. Exercise was performed with an intensity of 80 to 95% of maximum heart rate with 6 cycles of 45 seconds with a rest of 120 seconds between each cycle. Serum VEGF levels were measured 24 hours before and after the study and in the 12-hour fasting state. Correlated t-test and independent t-test were used to evaluate the results.
Results: According to the results in the intense periodic training group (p <0.0001), the difference between the mean serum VEGF levels between pre-test and post-test was significant. There was no significant difference in VEGF values in the control group (p = 0.75).
Conclusion: Eight weeks of intense intermittent exercise improved the vascular endothelial growth factor of obese women and it can be stated that if exercise is performed regularly and for a long time, it can be a preventive factor in the development of cardiovascular disease in obese people.
