Abstract:
Introduction: Knee Ligament injuries, specially ACL rupture, are very common in female soccer players. Weakness in CME and DKV are the key risk factors for ACL and other lower extremity injures. The SMST is one of the successful lower extremity injury prevention protocols in the female soccer player’s. But its effect on the CME in female soccer player’s with DKV has not been studied. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of the SMST on CME in female soccer player’s with DKV.
Methods: The subjects of this randomized controlled trial consist of 24 young female soccer players with DKV and randomly divided into two groups (TG: Training Group, n=12, Mean±SD age: 20.1±2.0 years, weight 56.2±4.9 kg, height 164.2±7.3 cm, BMI 20.89±1.9 kg/m2, and experience 5.17±1.9 years) and (CG: Control Group, n=12, Mean ± SD age:19.75±1.7 years, weight 53.5±5.3 kg, height 126.3.9±5.3 cm, BMI 20.3±1.8 kg/ m2, and experience 5.4±2.1 years). The TG performed 18 sessions SMST and CG continued normal exercises. Pre-test and post-test assessment’s included CME test (Trunk flexor, Trunk extensor, right side bridge, and left side bridge). The SPSS (version 25) and the ANCOVA test (P≤0.05)was used to analyze the statistical data.
Results: The results of the ANCOVA showed that a significant improvement (P=0.01) in CME in TG (from 38/2 to 41/1), but in CG the CME did not change significantly. Therefore,18 sessions SMST during 6 weeks increased the CME by 7.5% in the TG with DKV.
Conclusion: The SMST is a specialized soccer neuromuscular exercise designed to prevention lower extremity (specially ACL) injuries in female soccer players Base on literature the DKV and weakness in CME are the key risk factors for lower extremity (specially ACL) injuries. Therefore, performing SMST is recommended for female soccer player’s whit DKV because it is effective in both preventing injuries and significant improvement CME.
