Abstract
Introduction and Objectives
Excessive pronation of the foot is one of the risk factors for rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee. The aim of the present study was to investigate the immediate effects of using a 7-degree slope antipronation insole on the components of the ground reaction force when walking male taekwondo practitioners.
Materials and Methods
Twelve taekwondo practitioners with anterior cruciate ligament injury participated in the present study voluntarily. Using the Vicon device including four cameras as well as two Kistler force plate devices, the components of the reaction force, the range of motion of the knee joint and the kinematic parameters of the knee joint were analyzed when walking with the antipronation sole. The results of the present study showed that the range of motion of the knee joint in the three movement plates did not change significantly when walking with the antiprone insole (Ƥ >0.05), but when using the insole the external internal force and the vertical force of the ground reaction were significantly reduced(Ƥ <0.05).
Conclusion
The present study showed that the antipronation insole with a slope of 7 degrees has no effect on the kinematic variables of taekwondo walking with anterior cruciate ligament injury. However, it significantly reduces the internal-external force on the knee joint, which can prevent degenerative articular cartilage in the knee and reduce the incidence of knee osteoarthritis in taekwondo practitioners with anterior cruciate ligament injury.
One orthosis intervention that can protect taekwondo practitioners with anterior cruciate ligament injury from degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis is the use of an antipronation insole.
