Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was studying the relation between emotion regulation strategies with selective attention factors in youth athletes. As mental preparation plays a key role in athletes' success, emotion regulation and attention are those factors that included in mental preparation; it seems necessary paying attention to their relationship in youth athletes to make successor mental interventions based on them.

Method: 163 male and female youth athletes in the range of 12-18 years old were selected by using convenience sampling method from different sports in East Azarbaijan province. Emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ) and D2 Test of Attention were used for collecting data. Pearson correlation was used for analysis the correlation between emotion regulation strategies (reappraisal and suppression) with attention factors.

Results: Results illustrated that reappraisal had positive and significant correlation with two components of selective attention (P ≤ 0/01), while it had negative and significant correlation with the factor which is called error (P ≤ 0/01). By contrast, suppression showed negative and significant correlation with selective attention, and positive and significant correlation with error (P ≤ 0/01).

Discussion and Conclusion: The results of this study showed that athletes who use reappraisal strategy in regulating their emotions, experience selected attention in their career. On the other hand, those athletes who use suppression strategy, may encounter with more difficulties in their activities and lose their concentration and attention more easily. As emotion regulation strategies could be learned, educating and training these strategies would prepare athletes to manage their emotions properly to be more concentrated in training and competition.
